Making a Bed Frame

Hobby project to build a solid cherry wood bed frame.

The first design draft

Final design as SketchUp model

Figuring out the triangle beam cross section

Buying (the first) batch of wood

Gluing top (thin) and side (thick) part of the side rails together

Gluing the oblique (overhanging) part onto the siderail

4 pieces to make the boxes for the pyramid feet, with cut for splice

Testing the fit of the splices for a foot box

The intersection of siderails and feet had to be manually fitted

To increase the stability of the feet, two internal planes were added before gluing

Cutting the square feet into pyramid stumps - lots of sanding needed

After sanding the feet don't look as terrible

Quick, cheap and easy in comparison to the rest: support feet for internally

Final fit and touch-ups in the workshop before taking it home for oiling

I wish those gaps were smaller

Despite the gaps, I like how the edges and angles turned out, especially the little bend between top and oblique side

Done with sleeping on a mattress on the bare floor for more than half a year
